Pettigrew [pitigrů] James, fysiolog angl. (* 1834 v Roxhillu). Lékařství vystudoval v Edinburce, v Glasgowě a působí od r. 1875 jako prof. fysiologie v St. Andrews ve Skotsku. Napsal řadu prací, týkajících se zvláště úkonů soustavy svalové. Z nich sluší aspoň uvésti: On the arrangement of muscular fibres in ventricles of vertebra te heart (1864); Ganglia and nerves of the heart (1865); Muscular arrangements of the bladder and prostate (1867); Muscular tunics of the stomach (1867); Man in his anatomical, physical and physiological aspects (1876). Také zabýval se mnoho studiemi letu hmyzu, ptactva i netopýrův a umělého letu pomocí rozmanitých letadel.
